Our Sound
All of our music is arranged by and for our members, which has inspired reinventions of club classics, original pieces that speak to our collective experiences, and musical collages that celebrate our cultural backgrounds. We are excited by contemporary choral music, global music traditions, vocal improvisers, and the sounds we make and hear everyday. We, of course, also appreciate a good aca-bop and banger.
Our Music
Over the years, Voices in Your Head has released 6 studio albums and numerous singles featuring songs arranged (and written) by members of the group. Containing BOCA-featured and CARA-award-winning songs as well as music from our award-winning competitive sets, these albums speak sing for themselves. Most importantly, however, they’re our opportunity to share our love for singing and music with you.
Our Story
A student-run a cappella group at the University of Chicago, we aim to "push the bounds of contemporary a cappella." Founded in 1998 by students looking for an “experimental” space for a cappella, our unique blend of members from undergraduate and graduate studies of all disciplines is mirrored by a similarly eclectic repertoire including original pieces as well as pop, R&B, rock, and alternative music.
