A big thank you to Varsity Vocals and the Pabst Theatre for hosting us, and to Emily Flanders for being an incredible producer and MC. Stay tuned for what we have in store this spring…

After a great trip to New York, Voices is back in Chicago!

We had an absolutely amazing time performing our set at the 2022 ICCA Finals. It means everything to have been able to perform on the Town Hall stage and sing with some of the most extremely talented a cappella groups in the world. Congratulations to all the other groups who we had the privilege of performing with— shoutout to the Scattertones, Opportunes, and our Great Lakes CHAMPS Pitches & Notes, who deserve a special congrats for taking it home!

We’re so grateful to look back on this 2022 ICCA season and remember all the incredible moments throughout our journey to New York— from getting the most delicious pizza, to playing basketball the day before Finals— we had so much fun and are incredibly proud to have made it this far.

We’re so excited to see what the rest of this year will bring. Stay tuned!

ICCA Semifinals Results

Posted by Lina Klak on 04/02/2022, 11:24 AM |

For the first time in over 4 years, Voices in Your Head is headed back to ICCA Finals!

On March 19th, we placed third at the Great Lakes Semifinals at the Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture in Chicago, trailing behind the absolutely amazing groups, Maize Mirchi (University of Michigan) and Pitches & Notes (University of Wisconsin-Madison).

In the midst of all of the incredibly talented groups, we were so lucky to place. It allowed us to have a change to submit our application for the Wildcard Round— and, shockingly, we ended up placing first!

So, we're heading to New York City to represent Chicago and the Great Lakes! Thank you to everyone who has helped make this journey possible for us so far— make sure to stay tuned for more updates!

Heroes Listen Released!

Posted by Jaclyn Sattler on 10/20/2015, 2:08 PM |

Listen up! Our newest single, Heroes Listen, has just dropped. This track is one of the most personal songs we've performed yet, and we are so excited to share it with you! Our choral-style mashup of Alesso and Tove Lo's "Heroes (We Could Be)" and David Guetta and John Legend's "Listen" is available for free listening on Soundcloud; and for purchase on iTunes, and Loudr.

The main theme throughout the song: "We could be heroes, as long as we remember to listen to one another," feels really poignant to us, and we believe it will resonate with others who hear the track as well!

Our profound thanks go out to Chris Rishel for arranging, recording, editing, and mixing; Bill Hare for mastering, and Benjy Rose and Jaclyn Sattler for cover art creation and design.

Voices in Your Head had a fantastic experience competing in the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella this season. We were so proud to take second at our quarterfinal and advance to the next round of the competition alongside our friends in Northwestern's Purple Haze. It was even more exhilarating to have the opportunity to share the semifinal stage with our UChicago crush, Run For Cover!

Special congratulations are in order to Ana Isabel Martinez, Tyler Neenan, and Jaclyn Sattler for taking home the Outstanding Choreography award at our quarterfinal - as well as our beatboxing bamf Kevin Qian, who won Outstanding Vocal Percussion at both quarters AND semis!

We also want to give a shout-out to our friends in Fundamentally Sound for their killer performance and our buddies in Bare Naked Statues, who will be reppin' the Midwest at finals in NYC; best of luck, guys!

Last but not least, we'd like to send our undying gratitude to Chris Rishel for not only arranging an incredible set but also being our rock throughout this process. Man, we couldn't have done this without you :)

Winter Tour 2k13

Posted by Jaclyn Sattler on 12/21/2013, 1:21 PM |

Twas the day after tour, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
Altogether we slept through at least ten alarms
Far too tired to transport our legs or our arms

The children were nestled all snug in their beds
(Or a couch. Or a floor! "We're not picky," they said)
But we had to return the rental car by noon
So we were forced to say our goodbyes rather soon

There would be no more singing, nor dance, nor VP
Nor holiday carols, nor random harmonies
No more six hour drives nor McDonald's for dinner
But despite all the setbacks, this tour was a winner

Because we knew that every day would be a blast
And though our tour has ended, the music will last
Thanks to all our new friends - and their families, too
None of this would have been possible without you

Now we're all headed home on foot, car, train, or flight
Until 2014, we will be out of sight
In the meantime, in order to end this just right:
"Happy holidays to all, and to all a good night!"

Thank you Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin for your warm welcomes and packed auditoriums. During our whirlwind of a week we performed at high schools, were tourists in our own city, and, unsurprisingly, spontaneously burst out into song...along with other shenanigans. Check out our Facebook page and our twitter (@uchicagovoices) for updates on our adventure!

Voices on Sing 8!

Posted by Allegra Kuney on 11/01/2011, 7:34 PM |

Our original song, Sharp, has been chosen by The Contemporary A Cappella Society (CASA) for their newest compilation album, Sing 8: Too Cubed. We are so honored to be chosen again (from a record number of submissions, AND as only one of three scholastic originals!) after last year's appearance of Boomerang on Sing 7. The album will be available on iTunes or a-cappella.com starting November 14th, but in the meantime...

"Sharp" is now available for listening on YouTube!

Sharp (Full Track)

Now you, too, can sing along to what CASA has dubbed the "Best. Syllables. Ever." Enjoy!

You can also listen to "Sharp" and much more on our latest album, I Used To Live Alone (available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, or uBazaar).

RARB Review of I Used to Live Alone

Posted by Brianne Holland on 10/30/2011, 11:11 PM |

Earlier today, the Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB) released a very positive review of our latest album, I Used to Live Alone (available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon, or uBazaar). We are thrilled to have been given an overall score of 4.7 (on a 5pt scale), and are so grateful to the reviewers (Jonathan Minkoff, Robert Dietz, and Nick Anderson-Frey) for their kind words. We're glad you enjoyed the album, and are already working on our next project - stay posted!

In the meantime, you can check out the reviews here:

Here are some of our favorite snippets from the reviews:

"[Voices in Your Head] has become one of the fastest rising stars in collegiate a cappella... Any college group that finds itself simply imitating covers will have its world opened up with a few listens to Voices' relentless creativity." --Jonathan Minkoff

"From the sleek concept of the jacket art, to the thoughtful execution of its original material, there is no question that we're being treated to something with vision." --Robert Dietz

"I Used to Live Alone is a supremely professional effort from Voices in Your Head, a talented and ambitious collegiate group... The album is polished, with Voices in Your Head exhibiting the most consistent group sound I've heard in a collegiate a cappella group since the Tufts Beelzebubs on Code Red... A cappella is gradually becoming cooler and cooler, and it appears that Voices in Your Head is at the forefront of this movement." --Nick Anderson-Frey
