Audition for us
Our audition sign up sheet will be posted here in late September. Until then, follow our updates on our socials, check out our music, and prepare using the FAQ section below.

We will consider anyone who will be here during the upcoming academic year in any academic program.
-
Absolutely! We have a wide range of vocal/musical experience in the group, from rigorously trained musicians to those who have no formal experience whatsoever.
-
We will lead you through a series of vocal exercises and listen to your solo (done a cappella). You will also hear about our plan for the upcoming year and will be given the chance to ask questions.
-
Pick a one minute excerpt of a song that will show off your voice without straining it too much, and that you feel confident singing. Since we generally sing relatively modern songs, it's better to choose something along the lines of pop, rock, or jazz, and to avoid solos which require massive, unrelenting vibrato and/or a heavily modulated timbre (classical, certain styles of showtunes). If you aren't sure, it might help you to listen to our music to get a sense of the style we are looking for.
-
Absolutely! We would love to see or listen to anything you might have to show us (related to a cappella). All of our arrangements are done by members of the group, so if you have arranging experience, be sure to let us know.
-
Absolutely, we encourage it! There are seven different a cappella groups on campus - all of which have different goals, styles, time commitments, etc. All of the groups work together to ensure that you can audition for every group you are interested in.
-
Once we’ve heard everyone, we invite around 15 people to the callback round. Callbacks are held in the days following auditions, in the evening so as to avoid time conflicts. Following our callbacks, after a long week of a cappella, our final decisions will be made over the weekend.

Voices maintains a regular rehearsal schedule of approximately 6 hours per week and has varying performances during the academic year. Note that extra rehearsals are common leading up to larger performances and competitions. Also, be prepared to dedicate a few weekends a year to travel with us to competitions, gigs, or retreats!
